2022 Beyond COVID: What the Hospitalist Needs to Know about Infectious Diseases

Infectious disease is a constantly changing field and is an area that requires frequent updates and reviews. This course will provide practical knowledge for hospitalists in some of the most frequently encountered problems in hospitalized patients with infectious diseases including endocarditis, Clostridioides difficile, pneumonia, infectious disease emergencies, urinary tract infections and many others.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be better able to:

  1. Identify best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of common inpatient infections such as skin and soft tissue infections, community acquired pneumonia, respiratory viral infections, and infectious endocarditis
  2. Discuss how to promptly recognize and manage selected infectious disease emergencies
  3. List key strategies in the prevention and treatment of common healthcare-associated infections, including Clostridioides difficile diarrhea
  4. Employ principles of antibiotic stewardship to improve the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infections
  5. Apply a selection of clinical ID “pearls” to hospitalist practice
