Using a blended curricular approach of live didactic teaching and simulation-based hands-on training, participants will learn, review and demonstrate best practice techniques for the performance of the more common invasive bedside procedures as relevant to the hospitalist. Topics include vascular and intraosseous access, paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, and basic airway management, including the use of supraglottic devices. The use of ultrasound for procedural performance will be showcased, and its application will be practiced during each topic’s session. The course has an optimal faculty-to-learner ratio that will maximize the learning experience; cutting-edge ultrasound units will enhance the experience while skills are practiced; and fluid-filled, anatomically-representative task trainers will facilitate basic skills acquisition.
