This session aims to teaching the “why” and the “how” for integrating Health Equity into all QI efforts. We will begin with a primer on health equity terminology and discuss the Quintuple Aim for healthcare improvement. Next, we will review the current state of inequities in patient care and outcomes. Finally, we will discuss the role of QI in addressing inequities, specifically sharing how QI tools can be intentionally used to better understand and address the root causes of inequities.

Learning Objectives
  1. Describe the case for the Quintuple Aim and the importance of including Health Equity in QI efforts
  2. Recognize how systemic inequities leads to disparities in health outcomes
  3. Apply the lens of equity to all quality improvement efforts and quality and safety education
