Description
The local chapter of Michigan Society of Hospital Medicine, in collaboration with Corewell Health Grand Rapids, is offering a comprehensive one-day Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) course designed specifically for acute care physicians and advance practice providers. This hands-on course is ideal for clinicians looking to build skills and gain confidence in bedside ultrasound technique. Through a combination of engaging presentations and applied learning, this dynamic course will be beneficial to both novice and experienced providers alike. During the course, participants will engage the following topics:
- Fundamental ultrasound principles and machine operation
- Relevant clinical use at bedside for abdominal, lung, and cardiac physiology and pathology
- Ultrasound guided procedures
- Image interpretation
Additionally, participants will gain valuable experience by scanning live models under the guidance of expert instructors. The small group format ensures personalized feedback and a safe learning environment to explore this powerful diagnostic tool. By the end of the course, participants will leave with practical skills, clinical insight, and a stronger ability to incorporate POCUS into clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Define fundamental ultrasound principles demonstrate machine operation
- Perform and interpret abdominal, lung, and cardiac physiology and pathology
- Gain an increase understanding of Image interpretation.
- Understand core POCUS applications relevant to hospital medicine.
- Safely and effectively apply ultrasound guidance for vascular access, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
