ForwardPoint-of-Care Ultrasound: Image Portfolio
SUMMARY
The SHM POCUS Portfolio is designed to foster self-directed learning while providing feedback and advanced skills training. Participants will assemble a portfolio of specific images to be reviewed and approved by a faculty member via the internet. Expect a productive educational experience that will foster ongoing scanning practice and yield high-quality image acquisition. You will need to have access to an ultrasound machine with image storage capability. The emphasis for portfolio development will be on image quality.
GOAL
Learners will practice their image acquisition skills and gain proficiency in acquisition.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for any healthcare providers that care for acutely ill patients (physicians, advanced care providers), primarily specializing in hospital medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, critical care, and emergency medicine.
Learning Objectives
After completing the activity, the participant should be able to:
- Achieve proficiency in acquiring standard POCUS views on healthy volunteers or patients that demonstrate normal or abnormal findings.
- Understand of techniques to optimize ultrasound images through probe manipulation and adjustment of machine settings while acquiring standard POCUS views.
- Be familiar with normal findings and recognize grossly abnormal findings in standard POCUS views.

The Society of Hospital Medicine designates this activity for a maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 17 MOC point in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
