Rapid Clinical Updates: COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines and Hospital Medicine

The COVID-19 Rapid Updates team is focusing on the recently available COVID-19 mRNA vaccines and breaking down what they mean for hospitalists. We will discuss the features of each vaccine and their efficacy, highlight real-life cases centered around the vaccine, virus mutations, and audience questions. Learning Objectives

•Understand COVID-related coagulopathy, definitions and mechanisms, including interpretation of d-dimers and when to investigate for VTE.
•Evaluate the best options for assessing COVID-19 associated coagulopathy in hospitalized patients, including D-dimer, fibrinogen, platelets and PT/aPTT.
•Identify the best practices for in the hospital AND post-hospital VTE prophylaxis in patients with COVID-19.
